Celebrating Diversity and Valuing Difference - Join the Perceptions 30 Day Challenge

In October's 30 Day Challenge for the Transforming Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery we are celebrating the diversity of people who are nurses and midwives and valuing the skills that this can bring to solving complex problems together.

This month we are encouraging you to be creative in solving a difficult or complex problem at work or in your community. Look wider than the normal group you involve in problem solving and look beyond your community to see who could help you and bring different perspectives and views. Consider who will strengthen your approach to thinking about the problem by widening your network and making better use of others experience, skills and uniqueness, creating an environment where people can flourish.

Towards the end of the month write a short blog, vlog or image of the key points of the problem, your learning from sharing your thoughts with different people and capturing how your solution changes by the end of the conversation.

Be as inclusive as you can, including people from as many diverse backgrounds as you can, be it gender, ethnicity, age, disability or experience. This is important as when we create a diverse team we find ourselves with a group of people with a variety of lived experiences and perspectives, which is truly when you will get the most out of your team.

About the Perceptions Challenges

Twelve 30 day challenges were launched by Professor Jane Cummings, Chief Nursing Officer for England on 14th May 2018 as part of the Transforming Perceptions of Nursing and Midwifery campaign.

The topic for each monthly challenge derives from the themes in the 10 Building Blocks that were designed by thousands of nurses, midwives and patients through ideas submitted to our crowdsourcing platform

The 12 monthly challenges are all about people working together to help put these building blocks into action. SIgn up to be a Perceptions Ambassador today
