Reactance was one of the key topics in the 2018 School for Change Agents. It features in this slide deck.

Often when we think we're experiencing resistance to change, what is actually happening is reactance. It's one of the most undervalued and underused concepts in the field of change. There are powerful methods to avoid or work with reactance. Read more on this here.

#SolvingTogether

We are supporting @WeAreARMA @VersusArthritis @Arthritis_ACTN @BritOrthopaedic @thecsp on #SolvingTogether which is live! Please share your ideas on how we can support people to stay as well as possible while waiting for hip and knee replacement surgery?

Share your ideas here.
It's great to see ideas on the #SolvingTogether platform, here is a reminder from @andybennett79 to keep the ideas coming in.

We need all types of thinking to lead change for the problems of now and the future. Help support people waiting for hip and knee replacements, what ideas do you have for now, and the future?

Remember to add your ideas to the #SolvingTogether platform linked here.

Wellbeing

Research into organisations/teams that have implemented "meeting free" days at work. It showed that "no-meeting" days improve autonomy, communication and engagement, resulting in decreased micromanagement and stress, which caused productivity to rise. For more insight, click here.

We have to be so careful how we write emails. We underestimate the impact of negativity bias. If we write an email with the intention of a positive tone, people will read it as neutral. If it's neutral, they'll read it as negative. Find out more here.

Relying on motivation isn’t always the best way to get things done. We’re all human, after all!   Consistency of habit is the best way to achieve your goals - regular small steps as part of your routine.  Thanks @lizandmollie.

#VirtualCollaborate

If someone in a #WhatsApp group chat isn't saved to your phone's contacts it can be difficult to know who they are.

There's a simple solution! Make sure your name is on your profile: this tip can be done on the WhatsApp mobile app or on the desktop app. Click the image below to see the graphics in full.

Team Updates

On Tuesday we bought together the new clinical associates that we have joining Horizons in the coming weeks along with clinical colleagues we work with on placement with the #StayAndThrive programme. We will be sharing more as they start in post and look forward to following their journey with us.

There is a vacancy in the NHS Horizons team for Band 7 Delivery Support Manager. For more information and to apply, click here.

Improvement

"Change management" and other process-driven, mechanistic change methods were developed for a previous era. To succeed at change in modern times, we need to shift to a more human-centred approach, that appeals to what really matters to people, says @xplane. For more insight, click here.
Are you seeking to change the culture of your organisation or system? DON'T start by setting up a "culture change" programme or a direct "culture" intervention. Culture gets changed when people start doing real work differently. Find out more on this here.
The prevailing wisdom that "leaders who ask the right questions will get the right answers to make the right decisions" is false. We need to create the conditions where everyone is encouraged to ask questions and reflect, not just leaders. Read more on this here.

Spread and Adoption

In case you missed @DianeKetley's webinar 'Leading the Spread and Adoption of Innovation and Improvement' from the 30th November 2021, a recording and slides from the webinar are available here.
