Project A

Project A is about improving ambulance services.  We had an innovation burst last week to explore innovative ideas to accelerate the pace of change.  Read about it and watch the action here


Research

Spreading and scaling innovations and improvements is one of the greatest challenges we face in the health and care system. Here's an important new report from the Health Foundation. 


Helen shared some interesting new research on whether health messages to young children made them choose water rather than sugary drinks. It shows that we have to frame messages in ways that are meaningful and make sense to the intended audience. Read more here


New research shows that swearing at work may have more benefits than we think (with the exception of swearing that's aimed at another individual in an accusatory way). Read more here

Wellbeing

The concept of "work/life" balance is an unhelpful myth. It implies that work is not part of life but something separate, and is getting in the way of existence. Read more here


Resources

A canvas is a visual chart with sections you can fill in to help you in a process. Andi Roberts has a free collection of 50+ canvases that you can download and adapt; everything from business planning to co-creating team goals to negotiating with empathy. Read more here

Helen shared this content about why it's time to dump conference calls and replace them with virtual meetings where we can see each other on a screen (e.g, Zoom and Skype). Read more here

Here's an excellent (free) white paper on what makes the difference between successful and unsuccessful change. It's based on research with 275 leaders from multiple organisations. Read more here

An important new research paper on using Twitter for Continuing Professional Development. It's about Occupational Therapists but it is relevant to other professions with formal systems for CPD. Social media is becoming increasingly mainstream. Read more here


When I'm facilitating workshops I often get participants voting. Sometimes I use "analogue" (voting cards etc) and sometimes "digital" (smartphone voting etc). Here's the most comprehensive article I've read on voting systems.
